Do I need to use a professional to install them
We hope not, unless you want to of course. Hiring a professional installer can cost between $150-$250 depending on where you go and how difficult your install may be. Over the years, Best Buy and local audio install shops have installed OnFair headrest DVD players 100's of times. We always hear from customers how the "Installer loves our products" if it's their first time seeing it. They say they've never seen anything like it before when it comes to "Quality and Price".
Anyway, we've done our homework (and the extra credit) giving it our best shot at helping the "Do-it-yourself-er" in you looking to tackle the headrest install process by making it as easy as possible and offering a boatload of helpful information with how to install videos to boot. We hope our efforts have paid off and you have the confidence to jump right in once your headrests land on your doorstep.
The estimated time to install our headrest DVD players is between 1 hour and 1.5 hours for most people. This will depend on your experience level, your vehicle ease of access to the back of the seats, location of the fuse box and your power-up selection (fuse box or cigarette lighter).
The most difficult part is typically getting your existing headrest pillow out and running the wire down through the seats so it comes out the bottom. The second most difficult task may be hiding the wires under the seats, under the carpet or even under the molding depending on your ambition level for concealment.
Connecting the A/V cables is easier than connecting up a VCR. Yellow goes to yellow, red to red and white to white. Because one end is male and one end is female, you can't get this wrong without a ton of effort and frustration. We recommend installing these things sober but one drink shouldn't hurt. You can always test them out in the garage so there's no need to be driving afterwards.
WARNING: Once you do have these babies installed, your kids will want to go for a 2 hour drive or you may need to leave them in the backseat in the garage for a few hours. We don't recommend showing these bad boys to the kids right before bedtime. Leave the zipper cover on if you have em. One parent's lesson to another.
